Pledge of Allegiance

The absolute best presentation of the Pledge of Allegiance came from a popular comedian who entertained us in movies through the 1950s and on Television during the 1960s.  Red Skeleton stood on the stage of his television show in 1969 and spoke words that every American should hear before they consider once again changing a single word of the Pledge or removing it from any other aspect of our society:

Domain Outage – July 7, 2009

From noon until around 10pm on July 7th, the domain name for HRShadows.com was listed as expired and the domain was routed to a link farm used by Enom Inc, the Registrar that our reseller works through.  The outage was discovered around 12:30pm, and it was brought to my attention by one o’clock.  At that time I started my attempts to contact my reseller, and after two hours of not being able to make a connection, I contacted Enom Inc about the situation.  We were starting to become afraid that HRShadows.com could be offline for as much as five days.

Around 9:30pm, I finally made contact with my reseller.  It was explained to me that the domain appeared to be simply parked, that the reseller believed the domain not to be active, and didn’t think that there would be an issue if it went down for a day or two.  I informed him that while the front of the domain showed nothing more than a place holder I designed, there was much more than a parked domain there.  Active email accounts, stored documents linked to from various locations on the internet.  The reseller said that he would immediate address the matter, and by 10pm, we were back up and fully operational.

Now, it wouldn’t seem so bad to us here at HRShadows.com if I hadn’t made contact with the reseller several days prior to the due date on the domain renewal.  I was told that I would be contacted the following day so that I could insure that the domain’s registration fees were paid on time.  No contact was made prior to the outage.

We have no idea how much email was bounced in that ten hour period.  Most of us responded quickly by suspending all email sent to our hrshadows.com email addresses.  But we are afraid that a lot of email bounced.

If you tried to email an HRShadows.com email address and it bounced, please resend it.

In the future, we are not expecting any new problems.  We are also in discussion of purchasing a backup domain name, and looking at moving the HRShadows.com domain to the same registar that I use for antagonyst.org .  We are working hard to insure that this situation does not happen again.
